Are We Encouraging Teen Pregnancies?
People have understandably asked us, "Aren't you condoning and even encouraging teen pregnancies by making it easy for these girls'?" No, we don't believe so.
In the first place, living in My Father's House isn't a free ride for the girls. They are required to be full time students and keep their grade point level above average. The girls are responsible for all the chores of the home including planning, shopping for, and cooking meals for the entire home on a rotating basis. They are also responsible for the care of their babies. We offer courses on computer use, budgeting, health care, nutrition, independent living, job hunting, etc. to help our young mothers prepare to become self sufficient, capable adults.
Secondly, we have found that other teens who come in contact with our clients through school, jobs, or youth group activities learn first hand that being a teen-age mother is not fun or glamorous. They learn that the consequences of teen sex has robbed these young mothers of much of their own childhood, and that it takes a lot of hard work from caring adults to get their lives back on track.
